Did you know...
The term BDU stands for "Battle Dress Uniform". This is the term used for the camouflage clothing worn by the men and women of the Armed Forces. It originated in World War I and was widely used in World War II by both the Army and Marine Corps.
With mass-production coming into existence around the same time as World War II, camouflage uniforms became more common on individual soldiers, yet initially, a patterned uniform was a sign of elite units.
